keep it goin

been a busy couple of weeks just wrapping my head around things.  Trying to figure out what to focus on and i’m so easily distracted.  I’ve been messing around with electronic sounds and it really excites me.  One of my liabilities as an artist is my ecletic style.  I need to turn that into my weapon.  I need to create a sound that represents me and roll with that.  My last album was duelistic, the first half being more traditional and the second more experimental.  But the experimental wasn’t that experimental…more just searching for my sound.  I think the specifics of the sound may lie in my produciton and my ability to use the studio as an inturment, and i think that’s what’s going on right now.  I’m working on my produciton technique and don’t have the ability (yet) to create the electronic sounds I imagine.  So I think the key is to stick to the traditional folk rock song but throw in the newness as it comes.  But i can’t be afraid of the unknown and the work it takes when you’re creating somthing so new and different.

New EP in the Works + April Shows

Howdy y’all, winters on its way out and there’s some great stuff happening!

I was on the radio this morning talking about my album (Drive Fast, Take Chances) and promoting some upcoming shows.  I also played a couple songs live in studio!  The first was “Vacation”, from my album, and the second was a brand new song, I think I’m calling it, “We Wait, We Fail”.  Thanks WTCM and Christal Frost for inviting me down to the studio, it was a great way to start the week.

Speaking of new songs, I’ve been working on demos for my new EP coming this summer.  It’s looking like a 4 song project.  I’ve written lots of new material but want to keep this project simple since I’ll be recording and producing it myself, in my home studio.  That’s right, trust no one!!  Well actually I’ll have the help of my band, The Crescent Fresh, which wasn’t the case on my last album Drive Fast, Take Chances (DFTC).  That was a songwriter & producer type project and this one will be a self produced, band oriented affair.  I’m bringing the songs and the band members are running them through their magic minds and coming up with accompaniments soaked in their own creativity.  The plan is to get the demos recorded, then use those demos to promote a small Kickstarter campaign to help purchase a few upgrades to the studio; a Sure SM7 for vocals, a low cost interface with 4 inputs to record drums (my Apogee Duet only has 2, but we’ll still use that for vocals, guitar, etc.) some new drum heads, and  some cash for online/CD distribution and marketing.  Cool stuff eh?

Also, I’ve got some shows coming up at GT Distillery, Brew, and of course, every Tuesday at The Parlor.  Check out the shows tab for dates, hope to see you out enjoying yourself this spring.  Love ya!

got some local news love!

weekly show @ The Parlor

parlor Tuesday

every tuesday @ The Parlor!!

I’ve got a weekly gig at The Parlor in Traverse on Lake ave.  and I couldn’t be happier.  Please come out and support me when you can, it’s a great place to hang and talk.  I’ll be doing all sorts of stuff to keep it interesting; guest spots, crazy cover tunes, laZer shows and more! 😉  I did the first one last night and it went pretty well, only gona get better though.  Honestly this is really big deal, winter can be a tough time to get gigs and this’ll help keep the heat on.  But people gota show up and drink or whatever so they make money, or no more gig for clinty. I’ll be workin hard to promote and keep it exciting.  thanks for caring!! love you all

Fall is the best time for making music

been busy writing music lately, gota get some lyrics down but I’ve got a butt load of music.  this season is undiniblely influencing the work of many artists in the area.  it like we’re suddenly part of the world exploding in color, and when the sun’s out like it has been, it’s so damn inspiring.  Then while its going down you realize its getting dark early and winter’s coming.  you want to love and you remember all the times you’ve loved and you feel good knowing it’s still inside you.  but sad because you’re alone and working, always working.  and there’s a long winter ahead that begs to be burried in work, but that’s the fucking best, at least for me,,,,,tho what i really need to work on..the business of this whole endeavor..is really what needs attention…but I’m nowhere without the songs so whatever dawg.  I have an idea…i’m going to start writing lyrics at the places I’d like to play music at.  Then I’ll be able to be myself and enjoy creating, while putting myself in a position where I could get a gig.  We’ll see how that goes.

took some pictures and video during the incredible indian summer (can we still use that term??ask the pc police for me 🙂  )we’ve been enjoying.  will be putting out a simple music vid for a song, not sure which one yet.  I’m making it myself, per usual 🙂  dont weep for me friends…also working on HOUSE SHOW!!! soon, more info soon on that one.

:):) xo – love ya kidos
